This October… Reel Steel and the Abbeydale Picture House present a 35mm double-bill special, with two horror films based on the work of author Clive Barker – Candyman (1992), and Hellraiser (1987).

Adapted from Clive Barker’s story The Forbidden from Books of BloodCandyman (1992) is the story of an urban legend, of a man who loved and paid the price with his life, whose spirit now haunts the site of his death, and those who dare to summon him.
Much like the legend of the Candyman itself, the story of the film has grown in the years that have followed – with a narrative exploring race and society – now feeling more relevant than ever before; presented here in 35mm in the year of the film’s 30th Anniversary.

Based on his own novella The Hellbound Heart, Hellraiser (1987) marks the directorial debut of Clive Barker, and is one of the standout genre offerings of the 1980s.
Through the use of a Lament Configuration puzzle box, the summoning of the Cenobites takes its holder to a place where pain and pleasure are twisted in dark and grotesque ways.
Introducing the world to the iconic Pinhead and his band of Cenobites, Hellraiser became an instant genre classic upon release, and remains one of the most frighteningly original visions in horror – presented here in 35mm in the year marking the film’s 35th Anniversary.
